What’s Up With Radio’s #1 Ad Category?


Automotive sales continued to be weak as U.S. light-vehicle sales dropped 0.5 percent in May compared to a year ago for radio’s number one advertising category. Ford, Nissan and Honda saw an increase for the month, while General Motors, Toyota, FCA and Hyundai-Kia fell as the automotive industry just missed capturing its first monthly sales gain of the year. Automotive sales are now down 2% for the year. If that trend continues, this would be the first year auto sales declined since 2009.
