Guam Radio Stations Freak People Out

In a case of bad timing Guam radio stations KTWG and KSTO conducted an unscheduled test of their Emergency Alert System early Monday morning. The Guam office of Homeland Security posted to their Facebook page that the stations had made a mistake.

Beasley Launches Community of Caring Initiative

The company will be utilizing all 63 of its radio stations for a new company-wide “Community of Caring” Public Service initiative. The campaign will involve PSA's and social media campaigns. Topics to be addressed include the opioid epidemic, bullying, racism and mental health awareness.

Purdy Recognized Big-Time in Texas

CBS Radio Dallas-Fort Worth Senior Vice President and Market Manager Brian Purdy was recently recognized with the Texas Association of Broadcasters’ “Broadcaster of the Year.” Accepting the award, Purdy said, “Every day is a terrific adventure working with our outstanding team, who responsibly inform, entertain, serve and protect Texans throughout the state. I wish they all could be standing up here with me right now.”

Cumulus Turns In a Nice Q2

Cumulus reported total revenue of $290.5 million in the second quarter of 2017, compared to revenue of $287.2 million in 2016. Westwood One had a very strong quarter with revenue up over 6% to $81.2 million. Radio station revenue was down slightly but still outperformed the markets in which Cumulus operates. Radio station revenue was down .7% to $208.6 million. When you combine the two divisions, Cumulus was up 1.2% for the quarter.

Rinker to Run Pensacola For Cumulus

Cumulus has hired Jackie Rinker as Market Manager for its five stations in Pensacola. Rinker was previously Market President for iHeartMedia in Panama City and Tallahassee and prior to that was D.O.S. and National Sales Manager for iHeartMedia in in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. She's also been Station Manager and D.O.S. for Treasure & Space Coast Radio and GSM for stations in New Haven and Orlando.

WUSF’s Carol Gentry Retiring

Culminating a multi-decade career covering the complex topic of health care, Carol Gentry is retiring from WUSF Public Media’s Health News Florida. Gentry single-handedly created Health News Florida in 2006 as an independent non-profit health journalism publication, and in 2012, Gentry joined the WUSF Tampa family when she brought Health News Florida into the fold of WUSF Public Media.

Cumulus CEO Mary Berner said the over 6% revenue growth for the quarter at Westwood One didn't happen by accident. And while she did not mention Westwood One President Suzanne Grimes (pictured here) by name it was crystal clear she's very happy with Grimes' leadership at the network.
