Auto Parts Category Huge For Radio

Four of the top 11 companies on the Media Monitors weekly chart are in the Auto Parts category. Last week, AutoZone was 7th, airing 22,263 spots on radio stations all across America. O'Reilly was 9th (18,930), NAPA was 10th (18,427), and Advance was 11th (18,029). The Home Depot took the top spot again (71,630) followed by GEICO (41,638) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (31,360).

According to the NPR website, photojournalist David Gilkey (pictured) was killed in Afghanistan on Sunday along with NPR's Afghan interpreter Zabihullah Tamanna.

Five Questions For KPLU General Manager Joey Cohn

Last month it was announced that "The Friends of KPLU," after only five months, raised the $7 million which enabled the 501(c)(3) to purchase the license of the Seattle station from Pacific Lutheran University. That prevented the station from being sold to the University of Washington. Joey Cohn is the GM of the station and one of the many hard-working "Friends" that made this happen.

(By Bob McCurdy) While soliciting broadcast clients at Katz years ago, we used a simple diagram to highlight the importance of having a larger sales staff than whichever Interep company we happened to be targeting. Our motto was, “God is on the side of the larger army.” The point we stressed was that even if our salespeople weren’t better than Interep’s, all else being equal in terms of work ethic, training, pre-selling efforts, and closing ratio, our larger sales staff would produce better results.

FCC To Demo New Online Public Inspection File

On Monday June 13, the FCC will host a demo of the expanded Online Public Inspection File, which replaces the current broadcast public inspection file process. The FCC will exhibit the interface to be used by radio and TV to file documents in the online public file database. Lacy Neff Dead At 49

He was a radio legend in West Virginia. Lacy Neff, the former longtime air personality and PD for WVAQ-FM in Morgantown, has died at a Boston hospital. Neff had been in the hospital since November 2013 after being diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare disease that builds up abnormal proteins in vital organs. The proteins were attacking his heart.
