(By Deborah Parenti) As bad as Sunday’s United incident was, the public handling of the situation has continued to compound it even further in what appears to be one bungled, weak attempt to quell one storm after another. While the first line of defense is to have a set of company policies in place designed to prevent or minimize the chance of such disastrous instances occurring to begin with, sometimes even the best efforts fail and bad situations happen.

Digital Music News cites a statement it was given by CEO Duncan Orrell-Jones that one-quarter of Slacker's employees have been let go. The website originally reported that 50% of Slacker's employees were being fired, after it received an anonymous e-mail from an employee that said...

Radio Ink is on a mission to debunk the theory that Millennials do not want to work in radio. Phylicia Cahill and Amanda Latorraca are both 29 years old, and work for Connoisseur in Connecticut. Phylicia got her start in radio as an intern and moved into sales. Amanda started in Television and made the switch to radio. Here's what they say about working in the radio industry.

Cumulus CEO Mary Berner has given Executive VP stripes to Mike McVay, Dave Milner, and Bob Walker. Berner said, “Mike, Dave, and Bob are terrific executives and have each been instrumental to the success we’ve achieved during the first year of executing our turnaround plan for the company.”

That news comes from the Radio Advertising Bureau. T-Mobile will receive this year's “Radio Marketer of the Year” award due to the company using radio as a key component in their advertising campaigns. T-Mobile will be honored with the award at the 2017 Radio Mercury Awards on June 1 at Stage 48, New York City.

Among the 2017 winners were WEPN (ESPN), WCBS-AM in New York City, WPYX in Albany, WXXI in Rochester, WHCU in Ithaca, and WSKG in Vestal. For a full listing of the winners GO HERE. This is the 51st year the New York State Broadcasters Association has given out the awards.

The Country Radio Broadcasters announced that Country Radio Hall of Fame Induction Dinner and Awards ceremony tables are now available for purchase. The June 21 event is being held at The Nashville Marriott.

The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation has announced the winners of the 2017 Celebration of Service to America Awards. These awards recognize outstanding community service by local broadcasters. Radio winners included WEDR-FM in Hollywood and K-Love in San Antonio.

Jingle company TM STUDIOS announces a new product line created for six radio formats. TM EVO is a customizable, interactive jingle service, allowing programmers to create their own unique sound in real-time. It's available for six formats; CHR, AC, Country, Hot AC, Hot Country and Classic Hits.

The New York State Broadcasters Association has honored ESPN New York’s 98.7FM with three Excellence in Broadcasting Awards: Best On-Air Broadcast Personality/Team— Hahn, Humpty & Canty (pictured); and Best Station-Sponsored Event— The Michael Kay Show was recognized for “The Great Sports Debate”; and, Outstanding Commercial (second year in a row) for, and made in conjunction with, NY Sports Clubs.
