Bell Media in Canada and iHeartMedia have signed an exclusive partnership that will bring the iHeartRadio brand to Canada. Bell Media is Canada's largest radio broadcaster with 106 stations in 54 markets.
iHeartMedia announced multiple new app integrations with Apple, Samsung, LG, and DTS at the Consumer Electronics Show. President of Business Development and Partnerships Michele Laven said, "These new iHeartRadio integrations allow us to offer our listeners an even more seamless listening experience wherever they are. jacapps says the company's V4 app platform will begin offering support for, and integration of, Google's Android Auto, the connected-car extension to its Android smartphone platform. The Register is reporting that streaming pioneer Live365 has laid off a "significant" chunk of its staff and may have to shut down soon if it does not get funding. Two weeks ago Live365 said it had lost the support of its investors. The new royalty rates set by the CRB may have something to do with the challenges the company is facing. Three years after launch, Rick O'Dell says he's shutting down the online radio station. According to the Chicagoland Radio and Media Blog, the recently announced higher royalties were the main factor, but O'Dell's full-time job as PD for WRME-LP//87.7 MeTV FM was also getting in his way of keeping the station alive.
