Atlanta families got their food giveaway earlier than usual, and the timing was the point. Smooth Jazz 101.1/100.1 (WJZA) pulled the event off the Thanksgiving calendar to reach households when fewer groups are handing out groceries and need has not let up.
Davis Broadcasting of Atlanta, through Smooth Jazz 101.1/100.1 (WJZA), hosted its Fall Fresh Food Giveaway on Saturday, October 17, providing groceries to more than 200 families across the metro Atlanta community. Each family received fresh uncooked chicken, potatoes, onions, bell peppers, bananas, rice, spinach, juice, and bread. The initiative was designed to provide relief to households facing rising grocery costs and ongoing food insecurity.
The giveaway was part of Davis Broadcasting’s 40 Days of Service, a community-focused initiative commemorating the company’s 40th anniversary.
Davis Broadcasting Vice President and Atlanta Market Manager Greg Davis Jr. said, “In the past, we’ve hosted our food giveaway around Thanksgiving, but we recognize that food insecurity doesn’t begin or end with the holiday season. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, there are often numerous organizations and resources available to help families. We made the decision to move our giveaway to October because families still need support during the weeks and months when those resources may not be as readily available. Our goal is to help bridge that gap and remind our community that we’re here to serve them beyond the holidays.”
