Cumulus Media’s ongoing layoffs have reached two of its most recognizable rock brands: Lamont Hollywood is exiting San Francisco’s 107.7 The Bone (KSAN) after 37 years, and Atlanta’s 99X (WNNX) has lost the majority of the on-air cast it had only recently reunited.
The cuts extend a wave of layoffs Cumulus Media began working through earlier this month across sales, programming, and its podcast division, as the company works through its restructuring following a prepackaged Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in March.
In San Francisco, Lamont Hollywood is out at classic rock station 107.7 The Bone (KSAN). He announced the news in a pointed post on social media. Hollywood and former co-host Paul Tonelli launched their morning show together in 1989 at KSJO in San Jose before moving to KSAN in 2003. The duo’s partnership ended in November 2024 after 35 years; Hollywood stayed on solo with The Lamont Show starting in January 2025.
This comes after Greg Papa’s controversial release from his KNBR midday talk show. However, the 49ers have stated his role as the team’s radio play-by-play announcer is unaffected.
Atlanta saw a similar round of cuts, with the majority of on-air staff let go at Classic Alternative station 99X (WNNX), according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Confirmed departures include Morning X hosts Steve Barnes and Christopher “Crash” Clark, along with producer Leslie “LT” Tillery, Program Director and midday host Steve Craig, and evening host Jill “Nelson” Melancon. Most of the departed 99X hosts had only recently returned to the station as part of its December 2022 relaunch.
99X Assistant Program Director Will Pendarvis is now listed as the station’s only air talent.
Cuts also hit WNNX sister station Q99.7 (WWWQ), where afternoon talent and former Bert Show co-host Kristin Klingshirn lost her job, which she only got in January.
