University of Florida’s commercial radio stations are getting a new sales partner. Saga Communications will take over advertising for WRUF-AM/FM from Audacy in September, a deal that also makes Saga a partner in training the university’s journalism students.

The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications has signed a seven-year Joint Sales Agreement with Saga, effective September 1, ending a sales arrangement Audacy has held with the university since 2012. Saga will now market advertising inventory for ESPN 98.1 (WRUF-AM), which also serves as the flagship station of the Florida Gators Radio Network, and 103.7 The Gator (WRUF).

The broadcaster already owns K-Country (WOGK), Wind-FM (WYND), and The Outlaw (WOGK-HD2) in the Gainesville-Ocala market.

The agreement extends beyond ad sales into a collaborative relationship covering student learning, professional development, and industry innovation, including opportunities in broadcasting, media sales, digital media, audience development, sports media, content strategy, internships, and mentorship.

Saga President and CEO Chris Forgy stated, “This collaboration reflects Saga’s commitment to investing in our present and future by working with outstanding local media properties as well as investing in our next generation of media professionals.”

University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Dean Hub Brown said, “This partnership represents a significant investment in the future of both public higher education and local media.”

University of Florida Division of Media Properties Executive Director Randy Wright added, “The combination of WRUF’s rich history, the University of Florida’s academic excellence, and Saga’s proven success in local broadcasting creates an exceptional opportunity for our students, our advertisers, and our listeners.”
