Rochelle Rallies: 2 Ton Radiothon Helps Feeds Hundreds

The 20th Annual 2 Ton Thanksgiving Food Drive, hosted by Rochelle Broadcasting Company’s 102.3 The Coyote (WYOT) and SuperHits 93.5 (WRHL-AM), set new records this year with the highest food and cash donations in its history for northern Illinois families.

Dozens of local businesses, organizations, and residents donated hundreds of pounds of nonperishable food and more than $30,000 in cash to benefit the Rochelle Area Christian Food Pantry. All funds collected will enable the pantry to purchase food at discounted rates, stretching each contribution’s impact.

Pantry Manager TyAnne Unger noted the pantry served 744 families last month, double the number from the previous year, adding, “There aren’t a lot of other places that do this, and we are always so blessed with the food we receive.”

Rochelle Broadcasting Company Owner Gary Petersen stated, “A big thank you to all the sponsors that support our 2 Ton Food Drive every year. This event started long before I was here, and Prescott Brothers Ford has done an outstanding job taking the lead over the past five years. Every little donation helps a lot.”

Coyote and SuperHits Program Director and Operations Manager Kris Wexell said, “We’re always amazed by the generosity of our community and our sponsors. Every year, they step up and make a huge difference, and this food drive was no exception.”
