As artificial intelligence begins to replace human workers, the radio industry is likely not immune to the impact. A new study ranking marketing careers by risk of automation shows that three roles critical to radio are among the most vulnerable.
Analysis from AI automation firm Linkee found copywriters face the steepest threat, with an 85% AI replacement risk and a negative growth rate of –3.4%, earning the highest overall risk score of 90.
As AI-driven ad platforms that automate buying and selling begin to appear in the industry, advertising sales agents, defined as those who solicit ads in TV, radio, publications, and digital outlets, rank third highest on the list of jobs vulnerable to automation. The study assigns the role a 57% replacement risk and a –6.6% growth rate, producing a risk score of 74.
Radio promotions managers are also at risk, with a 52% replacement rate and a negative growth rate of –4%, putting them at a score of 66.
This is one of the first measurements of unease on the sales side of radio, after Jacobs Media’s AQ6 survey in 2024 found that 77% of air talent worry they could lose their jobs to AI.
Radio’s challenge is part of a broader economic transformation. Challenger, Grey, & Christmas found that 10,375 US jobs have been eliminated this year directly due to artificial intelligence.

Can someone explain how AI can take the job of a Promotion Director when it requires meeting people and physical work? Make it make sense!
