The hall was full of misty eyes and heartfelt moments as air talent Donnie Simpson, technical mastermind Sun Sachs, and longtime radio champion Erica Farber were honored by the NAB and MIW during Monday’s 2024 Broadcasting Hall of Fame ceremony.

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio named Farber as the first recipient of its Impact Award. This new award recognizes a woman who has significantly contributed to the radio industry across various dimensions, including leadership, community service, and advocacy. In addition to the initial honor, the award will be known as The Erica Farber Impact Award from now on, in recognition of the outgoing RAB CEO’s lasting legacy.

MIW Board President Ruth Presslaff said, “What more can be said about Erica that hasn’t yet been said? She is a strategic thinker and true trendsetter who gives generously of her time and wisdom. MIW is a better organization because of her. The industry has been enriched in countless ways because of her. What an impact this woman has made!”

In response to receiving the award, Farber expressed her appreciation, saying, “I am deeply honored. Being recognized by such influential women in the industry is incredibly meaningful and humbling to me. I owe immense gratitude to the mentors and inspirational women who have supported and uplifted me along the way. They are the foundation of my success. My heartfelt thanks go to Ruth and the MIW Board, and to all of you who share my passion for radio and the impactful work we are privileged to do every day.”

Donnie Simpson was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. Simpson, who began his radio career at just 15 years old in Detroit, is renowned for his significant contributions to the Washington DC broadcasting scene. Beyond radio, Simpson’s career extended into television, where he hosted BET’s Video Soul.

America’s Most Wanted was this year’s television induction into the Hall of Fame.

Finally, Townsquare Media Senior Vice President of Digital Products Sun Sachs was presented with the NAB’s 2024 Digital Leadership Award. Sachs has been instrumental in transforming Townsquare’s digital-first strategy. Under his guidance, digital revenues have grown to represent more than 50% of the company’s total revenue by 2023.
