Terri Avery has announced her impending retirement from Cox Media Group Atlanta’s Kiss 104.1 (WALR). Avery has been the station’s Director of Branding and Programming since January 2019. Her tenure at CMG will conclude on December 31.

Under Avery’s guidance, Kiss 104.1 won two Marconi Awards, several Gabby Awards, and was nominated for the 2021 Service to America Award. She also launched the station’s Black Radio United for the Vote initiative.

Before joining CMG, Avery’s 38-year radio career included roles as station manager and instructor at the Carolina School of Broadcasting and a 14-year stint as Operations Manager/Program Director for CBS Radio Charlotte’s WPEG and WBAV. Her career also spans programming roles in Baltimore, Dallas, and Houston.

CMG and WALR have launched a search for her successor.

Avery said, “I’ve been all around the country in this wonderful career called radio. I’ve worked with some great people and had a lot of FUN! I want to thank my staff of great air personalities, the managers and executive team at CMG for making my last stop one of the best stops.”

CMG Atlanta Market Manager Jaleigh Long stated, “It is wonderful to honor Terri and her 38 years in the radio industry. I’m thankful for her excellent service to our WALR team and to celebrate the legacy she leaves behind.”

CMG Atlanta Director of Operations Emily Boldon added, “Terri is an intelligent and compassionate leader. Her talent and her kindness will be greatly missed as she leaves Kiss and begins to write her next exciting chapter.”
