Apple Brings All Subscription Audio Into Podcasts App

Apple has announced a series of upgrades to its audio apps coinciding with the release of iOS 17. Most notably, subscribers to Apple Music and partner services like Calm and Lingokids can now access shows from Apple’s original radio lineup through the Apple Podcasts app.

Apple is also making its own narrated audio news articles from Apple News+ publishers available in the Podcasts app. This feature, branded as Apple News+ Narrated, will be available in both the Apple Podcasts and Apple News platforms.

A newly introduced API will allow other subscription-based apps to offer their premium audio content through Apple Podcasts. This functionality will extend to a variety of audio content, including podcasts, news briefs, narrated articles, and more.

Third-party apps that opt for this integration will allow their subscribers to log in through the Apple Podcasts app and stream content across various Apple devices. Early adopters of this feature include Bloomberg, The Economist, and The Wall Street Journal, among others.
