John Wanamaker is departing Minnesota Public Radio to join the team at Iowa Public Radio. Wanamaker, who has been a fixture on Twin Cities’ radio for two decades, will exit MPR on September 21 and commence his new role in Iowa in early October. He will take over the local edition of All Things Considered, succeeding Catherine Wheeler who left for North Country Public Radio in New York.
Before his tenure at MPR, Wanamaker spent six years at WCCO Radio as an anchor and reporter. His extensive experience includes coverage of significant events such as the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul and the tragic I-35W Bridge Collapse over the Mississippi River.
The move to Iowa has a personal touch for Wanamaker. His wife is a native of Indianola, a small city located just 30 minutes south of Des Moines, where her parents still reside. The couple owns a home there.
Wanamaker stated, “I was ready for a change. I think I was a little played out. Everybody I’ve met so far has been really, really nice and very welcoming.”
