Community radio station WHCP in Cambridge, MD has broadened its footprint to include more of the Chesapeake region. The former low-power station, operating since 2015 at 101.5 FM, has upgraded its signal and received a full-power broadcast license for 91.7 FM.

While still carrying NPR flagship programming, the revamped WHCP will offer locally produced content more than 80% of the time. Local programming will feature well-known music experts, like blues circuit veteran Dr. Donna and her show Lady Spins the Blues, along with news.

Station founder and manager Mike Starling told the Dorchester Star, “With us having this bigger signal here, it should be a good, reliable station for people to put on their presets to listen to NPR and our other fine programming without any atmospherics to interrupt it.”
