SiriusXM Strikes Subscription Deal With Walmart+

Amid SiriusXM cutting 8% of its workforce, the company has formed a new bundling deal with Walmart. SiriusXM SVP and Chief Growth Officer Suzi Watford called the partnership a “first-of-its-kind offer” in a statement to Axios as subscription growth slows.

Between now and June 19, Walmart+ subscribers have the option to bundle in-car satellite radio or go streaming-only through their app for free for six months. While this may be a first for SiriusXM, it’s not the first audio partnership for Walmart. The big box retailer also offers six months of Spotify Premium for free with each subscription.

Walmart+ is $12.95 per month or $98 per year, and offers subscribers free delivery and cheaper gas prices, among in-store benefits. The service launched in 2019 and is estimated to have as many as 32 million subscribers.

Both companies have been big on bundles to get their subscriptions into more homes. Walmart and Paramount teamed last year to give Walmart+ subscribers Paramount+ with ads for free. SiriusXM offers VIP subscribers a complimentary year’s subscription to Discovery Plus.
