Randy Lemmon, a Houston radio host whose gardening program was on the air for nearly three decades, died on Wednesday.

Lemmon passed away on his birthday at the age of 61. The cause of death was attributed to complications from a stroke.

Lemmon hosted the GardenLine radio program for 27 years, with his program heard locally on iHeartMedia’s KTRH (740 AM). He often referred to his program as the “most-listened-to garden show in the country.”

“Randy had an unbridled passion for being on the radio and for helping people with their gardening issues,” Bryan Erickson, the director of AM programming for iHeartMedia in Houston, said in a statement. “We should all be so fortunate to do something in life that brings us such joy. He will be missed.”

In addition to his radio work, Lemmon also contributed to CBS affiliate KHOU (Channel 11) with on-air gardening segments.

Lemmon leaves behind two children — an adult son and a teenaged daughter.
