Sergio Bustos will join Miami-based public radio station WLRN (91.3 FM) as its vice president of news in early 2023.

Bustos will join WLRN after a lengthy career in reporting and editing, most recently as the enterprise and politics editor for the USA Today Network’s 18 newsrooms in Florida.

“WLRN has ambitious plans to grow its audience throughout South Florida,” Bustos said in a statement published on the station’s website. “I am greatly looking forward to joining the team in early January to build on the history of the great journalism WLRN is all about.”

“Sergio’s integrity, intelligence, energy and sense of humor will certainly be an asset in leading one of the best journalism enterprises in the nation,” John Labonia, the CEO of WLRN Public Media, said on Tuesday. “I look forward to working with Sergio and his team to continually deliver journalism of the highest quality that South Floridians have come to embrace, expect and deserve.”

Among other things, Bustos will help build and nurture a new investigative reporting team at WLRN, as well as its local government and accountability news teams.

WLRN is simulcast on WKWM (91.5 FM) in the Key West area.
