Why Mike Francesa Is Ending WFAN Show

No replacement was announced by Entercom and the company says Francesa will have an expanded role on Radio.com.

At first Francesa launched his “Mikes On” app behind a paywall as part of his new deal with Entercom. In September he moved all of his digital content over to the Radio.com app and it was made free to listeners.

On his show yesterday Francesa said, “Exactly what I’ll be doing for WFAN I don’t know yet. I will be doing stuff for Radio.com regularly.” Francesa said he might be doing stuff for WFAN that involves sponsors or doing an event somewhere. He said the change will allow him to travel more and be more involved with his kids who are all going into High School. He said these are very important years to me as a father.

Entercom New York Market Manager Susan Larkin released the following statement: “Mike Francesa will continue to be part of WFAN, and will soon also have an expanded role on Radio.com. While we are still finalizing details, this is an exciting move to bring more of Mike’s iconic sports talk content to fans across broadcast and digital in new, engaging ways, wherever and however loyal sports fans want it. Stay tuned as we will be sharing more details in the weeks to come.”

Francesa retired from WFAN in 2017 before returning to the station in May of 2018. He started at WFAN shortly after the all-sports outlet launched in 1987. He worked with Chris Russo as part of the Mike and the Mad Dog show from 1989 until 2008 when Russo left for SiriusXM.
