Rough February For Auto Sales

At the beginning of each month we like to take a close look at how radio’s biggest ad category is performing. New vehicle sales were off by 2.4% in February, compared to a year earlier. The drop in sales is being blamed on consumers losing interest in compact cars, mid-size sedans, and full-size cars. Here’s how all the big companies performed.

Ford and GM each fell by about 7 percent, Honda was off 5 percent and Nissan was off 4.3 percent. Toyota and Volkswagen were up. After seven years of gains, sales have been down nine of the last 12 months.

Sales are now off 0.7 percent through February after falling 1.8 percent in 2017.
