Bloomberg is out at 1200-AM in Boston and a completely conservative lineup is in, moving over from 1430-AM, which is now Spanish Contemporary Rumba. “TALK 1200, Boston’s Conservative Talk,” will feature Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Buck Sexton, and Mark Levin, and simucast on 94.5 HD2.

“We are excited to have this powerful lineup of conservative talk on a new channel here in Boston,” said Alan Chartrand, President of iHeartMedia’s Boston Region. “We are confident that with the biggest names in the talk radio format, we’ll be able to serve our listeners and advertisers well.”

“We are proud to have the best talent in talk radio on TALK 1200,” said Dylan Sprague, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia’s Boston Region. “With a more powerful signal, we can now reach a wider audience.”

  1. Thats some real good news for the Boston area! I especially enjoy the honest and straightforward manner of the Mark Levin Show, as he helps me [and many others] better understand the chaos, that todays news media throws at us. I enjoy his show on WJR out of Detroit every night. Mark, you are an absolute treasure in broadcasting Sir. Dennis Williams, Toledo,OH

  2. Yes Richie you are right it is WRKO. I don’t do well with a cell phone key pad. I purposely bought a CCRadio for AM reception but I guess unless I have an outside antenna I’m stuck with one station. I think I’ll check on an internet radio and see what that’s all about.
Thanks Doc for explaining all about the kw’s and signals I found it interesting.

  3. The 1430 signal (WKOX) is only 5kw by day and 1kw by night, and radiates to the northeast from a couple short sticks already northeast of Boston (on the Medford/Everett boundary, surrounded by the Malden River, the Revere Beach Parkway and the parking lot for the Wellington commuter rail station). The 1200 signal (WXRV) also radiates mostly to the northeast, but does so from southwest side of the market, near the Newton-Needham border close to I-95. It’s also 50kw both day and night. So it’s a far better signal, with a lot more coverage. I’d say it’s the fourth-best AM signal in the market, behind WBZ, WRKO and WEEI.
As for the simulcast on 94.5 HD2, it’s probably going to be heard by approximately nobody. Better for iHeart to find an FM translator to hop on.

  4. The signal for 1200 for me is weak and now I have lost my “conservative talk radio”. Thanks a lot! Only one I have now is WROR, 680.

    • You mean WRKO? For me the signal is very strong at night, very important for hearing Levin and Sexton, who were unhearable on 1430. The signal seems to be a little weaker during the daytime, but I can manage. As long as I can get Dennis Prager–the essential man on the radio–I’m happy.
