And one of them was a government agency, according to the FCC. Darren Roebuck of Boulder, Barry Bennett of Rollinsville, and The Town of Ward Colorado were all given 10 days notice to stop operating their pirate radio stations and explain to the FCC why they were doing so.
On January 24, Denver agents investigated an unlicensed FM station operating on the frequency 90.5 MHz. The agents confirmed the signal on 90.5-FM was coming from a trailer parked next to the Town Hall located on Columbia Street in Ward, Colorado. Public records list the Town of Ward as the owner of this property and they do not have a license for the station.
Darren Roebuck of Boulder was caught operating an illegal station at 93.1-FM. And, Barry Bennett from Rollinsville was nailed for an unlicensed station from a shed on his property, also on the 93.1 frequency.

The entire FM allocation of frequencies nationwide needs to be redone! Doing so would give the FCC HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF NEW SIGNALS TO BE GIVEN OUT TO NEW VOICES WANTING TO ENTER THE BROADCASTING BUSINESS! THE ABSOLUTE HOARDING OF BROADCAST STATIONS BY FIVE COMPANIES NEEDS TO COME TO AN END. THE FCC WAS NOT CREATED TO PROTECT FIVE MAJOR BROADCAST COMPANIES FROM EFFICIENT COMPETITION!!!!!!
