Like most sitcoms, Audacy Philadelphia’s B101 (WBEB) has an annual clip show. This one, however, is for a good cause. The 17th Annual Kathy’s Clips Cut-A-Thon to benefit the Wigs for Kids nonprofit raised over $20,000 and collected 560 inches of hair.
On August 28, The Kathy Romano Show broadcast live from Southampton’s TruBeauty Concepts for the annual Cut-A-Thon, encouraging listeners to trade their hair for free haircuts and drawing 40 donors. Kathy Romano launched Kathy’s Clips in 2008 as a humble local effort. Today, it’s grown into a B101 annual event.
Wigs for Kids provides no-cost, handmade hair replacement systems to children navigating hair loss due to chemotherapy, alopecia, burns, and other medical conditions. Donated hair serves as the key material for each hairpiece, while monetary donations help offset manufacturing costs.
Romano said, “I’m so happy to bring this event to the listeners at B101. There is something incredibly powerful about taking something you can grow back and turning it into confidence, hope, and a sense of normalcy for a child. Kathy’s Clips is one of my favorite mornings of the entire year. We love seeing the community support for the event and are grateful to all the donors.”
