After 17 years co-hosting the WKKO morning show, Harvey Steele’s last day on the air was December 20. He passed away on the 28th. Steele and Gary Shores teamed up to do afternoons on K100 starting in 1994. They were #1 in PM Drive for six years and won a CMA Award as Best Medium Market Broadcasters in 1995. In 2000, they were moved to morning drive where they became the longest-running morning duo in the market.

The Toledo Blade reports Steele was taken to the hospital on Saturday, where his blood sugar levels were skyrocketing. The paper reports Steele’s liver began to fail in 1997 after he unknowingly contracted hepatitis C in a blood transfusion in 1985. He had one liver transplant in 1997, followed by a second transplant a week later at the Cleveland Clinic that saved his life.
