So What Is Beasley Getting For $240 Million?

The 21 stations Greater Media owns are in Boston, Charlotte, Detroit, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. No doubt part of the reason this deal made sense to the Beasley family was the fact that Greater Media owned stations in two markets Beasley also had clusters in (Philadelphia and Charlotte). This would give them the opportunity to grow those clusters. Let’s take a closer look at the markets.

It will be interesting to see what happens in Charlotte, where Beasley owns five FMs and two AMs. It would be picking up two FMs and one AM in this deal, and has already announced it will divest stations in Charlotte. It will have to move two of the FMs to stay under the government cap. Let’s take a closer look.

In Philadelphia, Greater Media owns
97.5 The Fanatic (Sports)
WPEN 950 ESPN AM (Sports Talk)
93.3 WMMR (Rock)
BEN-FM 95.7 (Hot AC)
102.9 WMGK (Classic Rock).

Beasley owns
WTEL-AM 610-AM (Sports/Talk)
WWDB 860-AM (Talk)

In Boston, Greater Media owns five FMs
WMJX Magic 106.7 (Adult Contemporary)
ALT 92.9 WBOS (Adult Album Alternative)
Hot 96.9, WKLB Country 102.5 (Country)
WROR 105.7 (Classic Hits).
Beasley owns WRCA-AM listed as a foreign language station, “Something For Everyone.”

In Charlotte, Greater Media owns three stations
WLNK-FM, 107.9 ”The Link” (Adult Contemporary)
AM/FM, news/talk simulcast 1110 WBT-AM & 99.3 WBT-FM

Beasley owns:
WSOC 103.7-FM (Country)
WPEG 97.9-FM (Urban)
WNKS 95.1 (Top 40)
WKQC 104.7-FM (Adult Contemporary)
WFNZ 610-AM (Sports/Talk)
WBCN 1600-AM (News Talk)
WBAV 101.9-FM (Urban Adult Hits)

In Detroit, Greater Media owns three FMs
94.7 WCSX (Classic Rock)
101 WRIF (Rock)
105.1 The Bounce WMGC (Throwback Hip Hop and R&B).

In New Jersey, Greater Media owns
WDHA 105.5 (Rock), and WMTR 1170 AM and WWTR 1250 AM (Classic Oldies) in Morristown
WMGQ Magic 98.3 (Adult Contemporary) and WCTC 1450 AM (Talk) in New Brunswick
WRAT 95.9 (Rock) in Point Pleasant/South Belmar
WJRZ (Classic Hits) in Manahawkin/Toms River.

  1. A couple of mistakes: In Philadelphia, Greater Media sold WPEN (AM)/950 at least a year ago. It is now owned by Family Stations, has the call letters WKDN, and carries conservative Christian programming. In New Jersey, 1250 AM in Morristown is WMTR, not WWTR. It plays classic hits. 1170 AM in Bridgewater (not Morristown) is WWTR and carries South Asian programming for the huge Indian and Pakistani community in Middlesex and Somerset Counties.
