WTMJ Getting In On Netflix Movie Craze

Scripps-owned WTMJ in Milwaukee is presenting a two-hour special Saturday night, with expanded coverage on their website, on the prosecution of Steven Avery, which has become one of the most popular programs on Netflix. WTMJ has covered the Avery story since the beginning, and now it’s widely known, thanks to a 10-episode Netflix documentary. The series has sparked a petition demanding a Presidential pardon and critics claiming there’s more to the story.

The WTMJ program is called Beyond Making a Murderer, for expanded on-air and online coverage to update the story of Steven Avery’s prosecution.

WTMJ/WKTI VP and GM Tom Langmyer says “The story of Steven Avery is not only a big story in our backyard but also a story of national significance. WTMJ is Wisconsin’s Radio Station and we are leading the way with exclusive interviews and expanded local coverage to advance the story.”

Wisconsin’s morning news host Gene Mueller will anchor a two-hour special WTMJ Presents: Beyond Making a Murderer on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. immediately prior to coverage of the Packers playoff game versus Washington. In addition, WTMJ’s Executive Producer of News, Erik Bilstad, is anchoring coverage live from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, with one-on-one interviews, videos, and exclusive digital coverage. “Wisconsin’s Radio Station is working to go beyond the documentary to talk with the people involved in the case and give our audience updated information,” said WTMJ Program Manager Eric Brooks. “We are talking with family members, justices, jurors, law enforcement, and prosecutors to learn everything new we can. WTMJ is providing content for not only our Wisconsin audience, but for those interested worldwide,” added Brooks.

WTMJ Presents: Beyond Making a Murderer coverage is showcased in a special section on WTMJ.com.
