WEEI/NESN Telethon Raises $4 Million

That's the total so far according to Entercom Market Manager Phil Zachary. The 16th annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon to strike out cancer is a joint effort between Entercom's WEEI and local TV station NESN and includes the local WEEI on-air talent and appearances from local politicians and sports stars from all the major Boston sports teams.

Clare Heads to Ohio

Cumulus has hired Chris Clare to program WNNF/NASH-FM 94.1 in Cincinnati. He's leaving 99.9 The Wolf/WTHT-FM in Portland, ME, where he was PD. It's Clare's second stop in Cincinnati, having previously been on-air at Star 96.5/WFTK-FM. He’s also programmed and worked at stations in Indianapolis, Denver, New Orleans and Pensacola.

Kudos to Cumulus From The Bronx

WNBM-FM was honored by the Bronx Borough President’s Office with a proclamation recognizing the station’s commitment to community service. The station worked with the Office of Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz Jr. to present a free event for the community, “New York Salutes America”, back in June. 50,000 people attended.

Ballas Gets a Nice Promotion

PodcastOne has promoted Jim Ballas to VP of Technology and Operations. In Ballas’ expanded role, he will oversee network digital initiatives and sales operations, including the website, app, ad insertion, virtual reality and reporting metrics. He'll report to CEO, Jim Berk.

Hotchkiss Gets Promoted by iHeart

Keith Hotchkiss has been named Region President for North Ohio. iHeartMedia North Ohio includes 30 stations in Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Lima, Ashland, Mansfield, Marion and Defiance. Hotchkiss joins the region from iHeartMedia’s Virginia-Carolina Region, where he most recently served as Regional Senior VP of Sales. Hotchkiss replaces Gary Mincer.

Mijo to Miami

Miguel “Mijo” Irizarry is joining the air staff at CBS Radio's Power 96 (WPOW-FM) in Miami beginning Monday, August 28. Irizarry will host weeknights from 7:00 PM to Midnight. He replaces Ivy “Unleashed” who was moved to afternoon drive.

There is No “Out” For CBS and Entercom

There's been some speculation as to what would happen to the CBS/Entercom deal if Entercom's stock continued to slide. After meeting with Entercom CEO David Field and CFO Rich Schmaeling, Wells Fargo analyst Marci Ryvicker told investors not to worry, there is no "out" in this deal.

More from the Ryvicker investor meeting where David Field was asked why iHeartMedia was doing so well posting revenue growth for 17 consecutive quarters and margins in the high 30%'s. Ryvicker writes, Field believes it’s because of iHeartMedia's scale and national footprint, which gives the company a seat at the table with some of the largest advertisers.

CBS Radio Reverses Course in Vegas

This has to do with coverage of the expansion Las Vegas Knights of the National Hockey League. After CBS Radio lost its bid to cover the team to Lotus Communications, Operations Manager J.B. King sent out an email to all CBS Radio Las Vegas employees, telling them not to mention a word on the air about the team, not even scores from the game.

Host Resigns After Attending Alt-Right Rally

Dave Reilly submitted his resignation Wednesday night to the owner and General Manager of WHLM in Bloomsberg Pennsylvania, his father Joe Reilly. It was accepted. Advertisers started bolting from the radio station after Dave Reilly was seen in a Unite-the-Right video posted to YouTube.
