(Ryan Wrecker) In our history as broadcasters, we've seen many new devices emerge in the tech world, Some have been embraced, others dismissed. Some personalities have embraced the digital components of radio and done well, but not everyone has found the level of success they desire.

JVC Media has extended the contract of daytime syndicated talker Frank MacKay’s shows Breaking it Down and 52 Players for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons in two markets, West Palm Beach and Long Island. MacKay’s career in public relations, entertainment, and politics spans four decades.

Jason Carr has been named Program Director for ALT 99.1 FM, “Cleveland’s New Rock Alternative,” and APD for 100.7 WMMS, “Cleveland’s Rock Station,” effective February 12. He will report to Keith Abrams, Regional Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia’s North Ohio Region and PD for 100.7 WMMS.

The reason for the big penalty against The Cesar Chavez Foundation's KNAI-FM in Phoenix and KUFW-FM in Woodlake, California, is for violating the Commission’s underwriting laws by broadcasting announcements that promoted the products, services, or businesses of its financial contributors.

Silverfish Media has announced the promotion of Patrick Thomas from Director of Programming to President, and Jessica Humphreville ("Carsen") to Director of Programming. Both Thomas and Humphreville will continue in their current on-air roles.

Alternative Rocker FM 94/9 (KBZT-FM) is now "ALT 949." And, Sunny 98.1 (KXSN-FM) and KYXY 96.5 (KYXY-FM) have made programming changes. Here are those changes.

KVON/KVYN (Napa, CA) radio veteran Ira C. Smith has been named the 2017 Ambassador of the Year by the Napa Chamber of Commerce. During the North Bay fires, KVON and Smith formed a “lifeline” for many Napa County residents.

106.7 The Bull, “Colorado’s New Country” station, has debuted CMT After MidNite with Cody Alan. The popular country music program will broadcast Monday through Sunday from midnight to 5 a.m. MST.

Boys will be boys, as the saying goes. It was not a proud moment for radio Wednesday on Radio Row at The Mall of America, although it certainly is getting two sports radio hosts a ton of national publicity. The incident resulted in iHeartMedia's sports station getting kicked off Radio Row. A question for managers around the country: Is this good publicity?
