Their children were killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting back in 2012 and they say Alex Jones claims the shooting was “completely fake” and a “giant hoax” perpetrated by opponents of the Second Amendment. On Tuesday, the parents filed a defamation lawsuit against Jones who operates the conspiracy website Infowars.

The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation has announced the winners of the 43rd annual Gracie Awards, which will take place Tuesday, May 22 in Beverly Hills. The Gracie Awards Luncheon will be Tuesday, June 27 at Cipriani in New York with local and student winners being acknowledged.

On Tuesday, InTown Media announced the termination of its management agreement with KGY/KAYO in Olympia, WA. The agreement will come to an end on May 1. Nick Kerry, fourth-generation owner of the stations, will assume the General Management of the stations on May 2. Kerry has been Business Manager for the past five years.

Local Radio Networks has launched a new 24/7 format called Superstar Country. The format will feature country artists from the 80s through today, including George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, and Keith Urban. 

Thirty employees from Beasley Media Group’s Fort Myers, FL, cluster and corporate staff recently volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity’s home sites in Collier County. The effort was part of the company’s Community of Caring initiative. 

The annual The RTDNA/Hofstra University Survey on news staffing was released Monday and the results were basically flat. The survey showed the typical radio news operation had a full-time news staff of one, a number that has remained the same for decades.

Those are two very successful Rock and Roll bands who, perhaps, may not have become so successful if not for radio. Both Jon Bon Jovi and members of The Moody Blues thanked radio as they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this past weekend.
