It seems we've been reporting more about the FCC taking aim at illegal broadcasters under new Chairman Ajit Pai, especially the past few weeks. Thursday, another flurry of pirates were notified they had 10 days to end their operation and respond to the FCC to explain what they were doing operating radio stations without a government license. Here's where the latest group comes from...

678 Stations May Be Affected By TV Repack

That's according to a new independent study commissioned by the NAB. The study, which you can read HERE, details every radio station that might be affected and exactly which television station might affect them. The stations may need to reduce power, shut down, or operate from an auxiliary facility for work being done on a neighboring TV station antenna to ensure tower worker safety from radio frequency exposure. The NAB has sent the document to the FCC.

Meruelo Takes Over Power. Maki In Charge

Meruelo Media has begun operating KPWR-FM in Los Angeles. Merulo is purchasing the Hip Hop station from Emmis for $82.8 million. The format will stay the same and Val Maki will continue to manage the station. In fact, Maki will be the market manager for three stations now: KPWR, Muruelo Media's KDAY-FM in Los Angeles, and the newly launched Riverside station 93.5 The Wild.

FCC Must Fix Embedded Market Rule

It only affects two markets, New York and Washington DC, however it's important enough to Connoisseur Media CEO Jeff Warshaw that he's been providing the FCC with data, meeting with FCC staff, and has now written a letter asking the Commission to change its rules regarding embedded markets.

NAB: FCC Must Eliminate The Main Studio Rule

The NAB filed comments with the FCC in support of eliminating the Main Studio Rule, which has been on the FCC's books since 1940, and was revised in 1998. The rule requires The NAB says the rule will have no negative impact on how radio stations serve their communities.
