Mean Green Hits, the student-run radio station at the University of North Texas, has unveiled programming updates as it prepares to celebrate a major milestone. Centering on throwbacks, this new approach will feature Billboard chart hits from 1990 to 2019.
Launched on World College Radio Day in 2023, the station is celebrating its first anniversary on October 6. As part of its evolution, the station is also updating its slogan from “UNT’s Young Classics” to “UNT’s Throwback Station.”
Mean Green Hits is also gearing up for a major transition to a new, state-of-the-art studio on campus, offering better resources for students to create and broadcast their shows. Further details about the new studio will be released soon.
Throughout the changes, the station remains dedicated to offering UNT students opportunities in radio broadcasting, welcoming students from all majors to participate by creating their own shows, taking on air shifts, or exploring the technical side of the business.
Mean Green Hits Program Director and Student Lead Justin Walters said, “Mean Green Hits has grown tremendously in its first year, and we’re excited to continue that momentum with our new ‘Throwback Top 40’ focus and upcoming studio. Our goal is to keep delivering great music while giving students even more opportunities to make their voices heard on campus, whether that is by a student creating and producing their own show or being a radio personality for a shift. We can’t wait to see where the next year takes us.”
