You don’t need to wait for a new month, a better economy, or a fresh list of leads. You can create your own momentum today by changing how you spend your time and what you bring to local business owners. Here are eight places to begin.
1. Protect your selling time.
Your calendar reveals your priorities. Reserve time for prospecting, discovery conversations, and follow-up before paperwork consumes your day. Revenue requires contact with people who can buy.
2. Ask better questions.
“What would you like to advertise?” produces a different conversation than “Where is your business struggling to grow?” Get curious about customers, margins, capacity, and missed opportunities. Have a business discussion – not a radio discussion. Understanding comes before recommendations.
3. Reconnect with someone you already know.
Call a former advertiser, an inactive prospect, or a customer you haven’t checked on recently. That can create an unexpected spark. Bring an observation or useful idea. Give them a reason to welcome the conversation.
4. Sell an outcome.
Business owners want more qualified customers, stronger awareness, and reasons for people to choose them. Connect your recommendation to their specific goal. Explain how you will evaluate progress together.
5. Bring one creative idea.
Do you want to separate yourself from everything else advertisers see? A thoughtful promotion, memorable commercial concept, or community partnership can open a door that another rate sheet cannot. Make the idea relevant to that business. Show that you were paying attention.
6. Ask for an introduction.
Satisfied clients know other business owners. That can be access. Ask who might benefit from a conversation with you. Make the request specific and easy. Then treat that introduction like the gift it is because it is.
7. Establish the next step.
Before a meeting ends, do the most powerful thing you can do: agree on what happens next and when. A scheduled conversation creates forward motion. “I’ll check back sometime” leaves your opportunity floating without direction.
8. Encourage yourself into action.
Rejection can drain your energy if you let it define you. Don’t. Review what you do well. Choose one productive action and take it now. Confidence often follows movement.
We are radio. But the actual business we are in is the local relationship business. Make someone’s business your priority.
