Financial trouble does not always arrive as a diagnosis or a flood, and the Broadcasters Foundation of America is adjusting to that reality. A new grant aims to help radio and TV professionals through unpaid leave, housing emergencies, and other costly disruptions.
The BFOA’s new Hardship Grants are for broadcasters on unpaid or reduced-pay leave and for those facing extraordinary expenses tied to family care, housing, relocation, or theft. Eligible applicants are broadcasters who currently or previously worked in broadcasting. The BFOA Board approved the program unanimously, and applications are open now.
Hardship Grants are the foundation’s third assistance category, joining Monthly Grants for prolonged illness and Emergency Grants for disasters. Information is available at broadcastersfoundation.org, by phone at 212-373-8250, or by email at [email protected].
BFOA Chair Scott Herman stated, “This expands our ability to reach broadcasters who are struggling to meet their expenses because of extraordinary circumstances. I was delighted that the Board unanimously approved this initiative. We are up and running and ready to help more members of our broadcasting community when they need it most.”
BFOA President Tim McCarthy commented, “Our mission is to help broadcasters in need, and that commitment continues to guide everything we do. By expanding our grant programs, we can respond to a broader range of circumstances and provide critical assistance to more people in our industry when they need a helping hand.”
