Rod Calarco, who led WCBS-FM through its climb to number one and spent 28 years at CBS Radio, has died. His career also included positions at ABC Television, WCAU-AM in Philadelphia, KRQR in San Francisco, and the CBS National Sales Rep Firm in Chicago.

Calarco began his career in sales at WFAS-AM in White Plains before starting as a salesperson at WCBS-AM, then rising to Vice President and General Manager of WCBS-FM and later Vice President and Group Head overseeing CBS-owned FM stations.

He later joined WorldSpace International Radio, an early satellite radio venture, and returned to WFAS-AM as General Manager, a position he held until his retirement. He also served on industry boards, including the Radio Advertising Bureau.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 27, at 11a ET at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 920 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
