Radio-backed scripted storytelling is competing on podcasting’s awards stage. A six-episode disaster drama from Benztown + McVay Media Podcast Networks is a Signal Awards finalist for its voice acting, and fans now have a say in a separate award decided by public vote.
American Afterlife is a finalist for Best Voice Acting in Limited Series & Specials at the fifth annual Signal Awards. Judges will decide the main awards. The series is also in contention for the Listener’s Choice Award, with voting open through October 15.
Fans can vote for American Afterlife on the Signal Awards website. Voters do not need to cast ballots in any other category.
In April, Benztown + McVay Media Podcast Networks adapted Pedro Hoffmeister’s Pacific Northwest disaster novel into the six-episode series, produced with William Stuart and Aurora Productions. Scarlett Estevez stars as Cielo, a young woman navigating survival after a catastrophic earthquake along the coast.
In September, Radio Ink covered the wider finalist field, which includes iHeartMedia, Audacy, NPR, and several public radio stations. Winners of the Listener’s Choice Awards and the Judging Academy’s bronze, silver, and gold honors will be announced October 20.
