WayFM has partnered with Eight Days of Hope to launch a mobile Disaster Relief Team, inspired by morning host Wally’s own experience during Hurricane Helene, providing satellite communications, prayer, and resources to communities hit by natural disasters.
The mobile response vehicle at the center of the new initiative is equipped with satellite Wi-Fi and staffed by volunteers who will bring the service directly into disaster-affected communities, starting with this hurricane season. Acting as a mobile care center, the vehicle will give individuals and families a place to connect with loved ones, access critical information and resources, and receive prayer and encouragement.
The idea took shape after Hurricane Helene, when WayFM morning host Wally volunteered with relief efforts in North Carolina. While serving families affected by the storm, he saw firsthand how the loss of internet and cellular service kept people from contacting loved ones, filing insurance claims, and locating essential supplies, an experience that led him to envision a mobile ministry built around restoring connection.
Wally said, “No one should ever have to wonder whether their loved ones are safe after a natural disaster. WayFM’s Disaster Relief Vehicle was born from my own experience of being unable to reach my daughter after Hurricane Helene to find out if she was okay. I remember thinking, ‘We’re a communications ministry—let’s use what we know to help reconnect people during the storm after the storm.’ Our partnership with Eight Days of Hope is a perfect fit because we share the same passion: caring for people and sharing the love of Jesus when they need it most.”
Eight Days of Hope President and CEO Stephen Tybor III said, “We are excited to partner with Hope Media Group, allowing us to restore the power of connection in the midst of chaos. Together, we will mobilize volunteers and resources to love and serve in communities, generating hope and healing for those who need it most.”
