Hopefully, Saga Communications’ Newsradio WINA-AM in Charlottesville, VA has a lot of empty space on its walls. At the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters Awards on April 1, WINA took home thirteen of those awards, including their fourth consecutive Outstanding News Operation of the Virginias.
WINA also finished first for Outstanding Sports Operation of the Virginias, Best Spot News, Best Continuing News, Best Light Feature, Best Serious Feature, Best Sports Feature, Best Talk Show, Best Radio Sports Anchor, and Best Radio News Anchor.
The station took second in Best Sports Play-by-Play, Best Newscast, and Best Q&A One-on-One Interview. Thirty-nine news organizations in Virginia and West Virginia submitted 709 entries, which featured news and sports from 2022.
