Country Station Comes Through Big For Troops

Country station KSCS (96.3 FM) in Dallas and its morning show, “Hawkeye in the Morning,” collected more than 106,000 holiday cards for military service members as part of the station’s “10,000 for the Troops” card drive.

The station partnered with Support Our Soldiers, a local not-for-profit organization, to send the holiday cards to “high risk” units that are deployed to isolated areas or who otherwise would not be able to get support from home during the holiday season.

The campaign started in October with the goal of collecting just 10,000 cards. After two months, the station was able to collect 106,332 cards for the troops, a spokesperson said in a press release.

“My co-host, Michelle Rodriguez, and I were overwhelmed by the tremendous support for U.S. service members stationed overseas,” Mark “Hawkeye” Lewis said in a statement. “We never imagined that we would collect 10 times as many cards as we hoped for – and we thank our amazing listeners and partners for their help in making the holidays brighter for our service men and women.”
