Top 40 radio station KKMG (98.9 FM, Magic FM) in Colorado Springs will hold an online auction in December to raise funds for the victims of a recent mass shooting at a nightclub in that city.
The online auction will start Tuesday, December 13 and will feature items that anyone in the country can bid on, with all proceeds going to the Colorado Healing Fund.
The auction will include musical instruments with autographs by OneRepublic, Brothers Osborne and JVKE; a helmet autographed by Deadmau5; tickets to an upcoming Ed Sheeran concert in Denver; a vinyl record autographed by Meghan Trainor; a magazine cover autographed by Selena Gomez; an alternative rock poster autographed by members of Jimmy Eat World, the 1975, Imagine Dragons, the All-American Rejects, Weezer and Rise Against; and other items.
On November 19, a gunman walked into a local nightclub called Club Q and opened fire, killing five people and injuring nearly two dozen more. One person was taken into custody as a result of the shooting. While the motive for the alleged crime remains unknown, many believe the gunman targeted the club because of its connection to the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado Springs.
At KKGM, the online auction is one way the station feels it can help heal the community after a senseless act of violence.
“We want to help the families of the victims and those affected by the Club Q tragedy,” Jeff Haber, the program director and an on-air host at KKMG, said in a statement. “Personally, I felt sick when I woke up to the news of the shooting and was just devastated, hearing about what the LGBTQ+ community is going through. We want to be an ally and to help our Colorado Springs community heal any way possible. That’s why we started Magic FM Cares For Club Q. We thank everyone who bids on these very special auction items – and also thank our artist friends and supporters who really stepped up to donate some one-of-a-kind items that music fans will love.”
