iHeartMedia Cleveland’s WTAM has launched “The Mike Trivisonno Fund” to benefit Coats for Kids. During a seven-hour broadcast dedicated to the charity, current WTAM afternoon host Bloomdaddy announced a $400,000 donation from The Figgie Foundation.
At the end of the broadcast day, more than $460,000 was placed into the fund which includes nearly $25,000 in listener memorial donations.
Mike Trivisonno, who passed away suddenly in October, helped raise millions of dollars over his career for local charities, but there was one charity that he held dear in his heart and that was Coats for Kids. Bloomdaddy said, “Triv always said it’s not the kids’ fault and I could not agree more. There is one thing I’m also passionate about and that is doing anything I can to help kids both on and off the air. I’m honored to carry the Coats for Kids torch and make sure Triv’s legacy lives on. ”
Bloomdaddy (David Blomquist) became the afternoon drive host on WTAM in February. Before entering into the world of radio, Bloomdaddy spent 15 years as a morning television anchor and reporter in the Ohio Valley and Charleston, West Virginia. He is the father of three boys and created his radio name to honor his sons: “Bloom” for his last name Blomquist and “Daddy” because that’s his #1 job.
In 1981, local radio station employees became aware of a large number of children missing school in the winter because they did not have warm coats. That November, Coats for Kids – Cleveland was founded when the radio station began soliciting donations of new or like-new winter coats.
