Clawing Back to 2019 Numbers

The NAB is days away from a return to a live in-person event in Las Vegas following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And, according to one report if 50% of the audience from 2019 shows up, that would be a win.

The NAB Show in Las Vegas runs from April 23rd to the 27th. This year it will also include the Radio Show which is no longer a stand-alone event. According to Consumer Electronics Daily NAB organizers are hoping for about 55% of the final attendance numbers from the last live meeting in 2019. The NAB show typically attracts over 100,000 people from all over the world.

Broker and radio station operator Lary Patrick told Consumer Electronics Daily his 2022 schedule is full. “In a normal year we usually have 40 to 60 meetings. This year I have the same amount.”

On Sunday, at The Mayfair Supper Club in The Bellagio Hotel, a special reception called Cocktails and Conversations is being hosted by several radio industry companies. The event is at capacity which is a good sign for the radio side of the event which can get lost amongst the massive Television and Technology booths in Las Vegas.

The companies hosting the event are Quu, Beasley Media Group, Benztown, vCreative, Skyview, Xperi, Radio Ink, Radio & Television Business Report and Jacobs Media Strategies. There will be a special appearance from Skyview Networks Personality Nick Cannon.

In what appears to be the new normal for major events, at least for now, proof of a negative COVID-19 test or vaccination will be required to enter the NAB convention. Masking is recommended but not required. The event will also feature on-site COVID-19 testing. Similar procedures were in place for the February Country Radio Seminar. Hardly anyone was wearing a mask at CRS.
