Entercom Sells Boston Rocker For $10.75 Million

Educational Media Foundation rolls into another major market and will flip the station to its KLOVE format, under a Network Affiliation Agreement, beginning February 22. WAAF has been playing rock music for 50 years.

With this deal, Entercom puts some much needed cash in the bank, one week before its next earnings call, and the company still has six stations in the Boston market (four FMs and two AMs).

In July of 2019 Entercom moved WAAF morning man Greg Hill over to WEEI to try to shore up the sports station that has been losing the ratings battle with Beasley’s 98.5 The Sports Hub. Hill had been on the air at WAAF since 1991. Beasley also owns the other rocker in Boston, WBOS.

Entercom will continue to air WAAF on its existing HD stations, 104.1 HD2 and 93.7 HD2 and on RADIO.COM. The local talent on the station now will not be staying on with the format moving to the HD stations. We’ve reached out to Entercom for an answer to that question.

The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2020.
