If you’ve been reading our daily headlines you know that stations all over the country have started flipping to Holiday music. It’s a radio tradition that typically results in higher ratings, at least for a few months. So what are the most popular songs in the Holiday format and is your Christmas station playing them?
The P1 Media Group and Nielsen’s BDS tested the 40 most played and 40 most streamed Christmas songs from the 2018 Holiday Season ranked amongst likely Christmas music radio listeners. Here’s what they came up with.
For the third straight year “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms is America’s #1 favorite Christmas song.
Here’s how the test was conducted…
P1 Media Group conducted the online survey the weekend of November 1-3rd, 2019. We sampled 400 18-54-year-old radio listeners, proportional to the population of the Top 50 American Radio Markets. Participants were required to listen either “Frequently” or “Sometimes” to Christmas Music on a local radio station during the holiday season and needed to rate their personal enjoyment of Christmas music on a local radio station during the holiday season a ‘7’ or higher on a 1 to 10 scale. We identified heavy streamers by asking each respondent “How frequently you listen to music on your smartphone, computer or other listening device from a streaming service such as Pandora, Spotify or Apple Music.” Heavy Streamers are those that responded they stream “everyday” or a “few
days” a week. 85% of the total sample were designated as Heavy Streamers.
