The station website tells the story, highlighted in red: “KRCC is currently off the air on 95.7 in Villa Grove, Salida, and Buena Vista due to the Decker Fire.” The blaze has burned power lines supplying the Southern Colorado Public Radio station transmitter.

A posting on the station’s website gives insight to the destruction. “We want to inform our listeners in Villa Grove, Salida, and Buena Vista that the Decker Fire has surrounded KRCC’s 95.7 FM tower site, which sits atop Methodist Mountain at an elevation of 11,800 feet.”

The station continues to stream content through its website and post news updates.
Authorities say the fire made a “big run” in recent days, doubling in size to more than 3,700 acres, and evacuations are in place for some neighborhoods.

  1. A more complete story would include the information that KRCC is licensed to Colorado Springs and the main
KRCC signal is not threatened by the fire and is on the air on the Front Range.

The signals that are compromised by the fire are translators.
