Entercom Buys Two Podcasting Companies

Entercom has acquired Cadence13 and Pineapple Street Media. Entercom had a 45% stake in Cadence13 before buying the rest of the company. Nick Quah is reporting that Entercom will pay $18 million for Pineapple Street Media, which is an independent podcast studio, and spend another $50 million for the balance of Cadence13 which is run by Spencer Brown.

Pineapple Street is home to three of the most popular current podcasts: Running From Cops, The Clearing, and The Chernobyl Podcast. The company was founded in 2016 by Jenna Weiss-Berman and Max Linsky.

As part of the acquisitions, Pineapple Street Media will become Pineapple Street Studios, a division of RADIO.COM. Weiss-Berman and Linsky will join the new organization as co-heads of this division, reporting to J.D. Crowley, Chief Digital Officer, Entercom.

Linsky said this is an incredibly exciting day. “We started Pineapple three years ago with the simple goal of making great shows that found huge audiences, and joining forces with the amazing teams at Entercom and Cadence13 means we can do that at a scale we never imagined.”

Cadence13 will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Entercom, named Cadence13, a division of RADIO.COM. CEO Spencer Brown will join the new organization as head of the division, reporting into J.D. Crowley, Chief Digital Officer, Entercom. Chris Corcoran.

Brown said consolidation with Entercom will greatly accelerate the next phase of growth for Cadence13. “Through its robust portfolio of broadcast radio stations and the RADIO.COM platform, Entercom offers Cadence access to a national audio platform that will accelerate revenue and development of our audience engagement efforts. This acquisition helps us extend the reach of our partners and will build their audiences across the audio landscape.
