Atlanta, DC Strong For Urban One

There was a time, not too long ago, the Atlanta market was giving Urban One CEO Alfred Liggins headaches. The market, where Urban One has 4 FM’s, was off horribly revenue-wise. Now, Atlanta is a totally different story, according to Liggins, the market has rebounded and Urban One has strong ratings so the results were very positive. Atlanta was up 7.2%.

Strong ratings in Washington DC also contributed to the company’s excellent revenue quarter, which saw an uptick of 5%.

Liggins says Houston also continues to stabilize and the company is performing well in other big markets. The Ohio markets are not as strong (Columbus and Cincinnati). Philadelphia is starting to get traction in the ratings but that has not shown up in the revenue column yet. Urban One operates radio stations in Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Richmond, St. Louis and Washington, DC.

Liggins gave a lot of the credit for the positive quarter to David Kantor, who runs the radio division, for putting in a new sales structure focused on creating new national business.
