KSFC 91.9 is promising a binge-worthy afternoon of programming July 20 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. A variety of topics relating to the historic day will be covered in five programs that begin at noon.

Washington Goes To The Moon-Part 1 will kick it off with a look at the politics behind the Apollo Program and the battle to fund the program and keep it on deadline. Witness History: The Race to the Moon is a BBC World Service special featuring stories and recollections of people close to key moments in humanity’s mission to the moon. Rocketing Ahead looks at why, in 1969, we went to the moon, and The Pulse: Destination Moon will look at the science that got us to the moon and the politics driving space exploration.

The final hour, One Giant Leap, will celebrate the milestone through the eyes of those who witnessed it. Among the participants in the radio documentary are Gene Kranz, Apollo Flight Director at NASA; Sergei Khruschev, son of former Soviet Premier Nikita Khruschev and former Soviet space program engineer; John Young, Commander of Apollo 16; and Tom Hanks, producer of the HBO miniseries From Earth to the Moon, and star of the motion picture Apollo 13.
