Station Saved

You may recall our story last month about WEEU in Reading, which, after 90 years on the air, was in danger of going dark due to bankruptcy. It was announced Thursday that Twilight Broadcasting would be purchasing the station. Twilight owns radio stations in Western PA. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

  1. This is a great match since both WEEU and Twilight Broadcasting stations still air local high school sports.

  2. Glad to see that someone saved this heritage station. WEEU was the voice of the Reading Eagle and served Berks County for 90 years. Back in the 1950s, WEEU also had television and FM facilities: TV channel 33 and FM 98.5. The transmitters for those stations were, if I remember correctly, located on the mountain near the Pagoda overlooking Reading. After the TV station went dark around 1958, the channel 33 allocation was moved to Harrisburg, where it was used by WITF-TV, that area’s PBS station. The FM allocation is now in Hanover (York County) and Freeland (Luzerne County).
