Five Murrows For WTMJ In Milwaukee

WTMJ won five Murrow Awards from the RTDNA.  The awards were given in categories ranging from Breaking News Coverage to Excellence in writing to Excellence in Video.

The awards are:

Breaking News Coverage – “Milwaukee Police Officer Acquitted.”
 In 2016, Milwaukee police officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown faced homicide charges for his role in the shooting death of Sylville Smith.

Excellence in Sound – “Do My Job – Barista” – Mike Spaulding
The hectic and artistic life of a coffee barista.

Excellence in Video – “Rides & Reins” – Jane Matenaer, Jay Sorgi and Dan Schenek
 WTMJ’s Jane Matenaer visited Rides & Reins, a low-cost therapeutic horseback riding center for children with emotional and physical needs.

Excellence in Writing – “The Opioid Crisis – Losing Alexis” – Erik Bilstad
Melanie Crandall, of Jefferson, WI, sits down with WTMJ’s Erik Bilstad following the fatal overdose of her 17-year-old daughter, Alexis.

Feature Reporting – “Lance Sijan Remembered” – Gene Mueller
Medal of Honor recipient and Milwaukee native Lance Sijan was killed in Vietnam. Fifty years later, many of his friends still remember his final days.
