The 77-year-old host told listeners Monday morning that his last show with Cumulus will be March 29. Imus said that it had to do with the Cumulus bankruptcy and he understood they are trying to save money. Imus was told he would not be paid past the end of his contract.
Imus, who’s been on radio since 1971, was syndicated on 84 stations. His contract does not expire until the end of the year.
Imus, according to his contract, is not allowed to say anything negative about Cumulus. He said on the air yesterday that he believes those in charge of the company now are going to turn Cumulus around.

lost a viewer..
Chris Stigall, you are a loser. Go birds! E A G L E S
I will take the job, and work for FREE!!!!!!!!
I am very creative and work very CHEAP. My name is Chris Stigall, and me and my protégé, Jared Hart, will move to NY from the terrible city of Filthadelphia, where I am treated like SH-T!
Don Imus’ political views are not the issue. Cumulus is drowning and grasps at every opportunity to save its life at the expense of on-the-air talent; blindly, stupid decisions – not unexpected from these morons – who confirm again and again that they don’t understand radio or listener engagement, nothing beyond saving their way to a profit which, BTW, never works. That’s Business 101 which is clearly above their pay grade.
They also canned one of San Francisco’s longtime on-the-air icons – Ronn Owens @KGO – after 42 years (!) because he was making too much money; never mind that he was a radio institution and the last element of the station’s brand and awareness among people in San Francisco.
But they continue to throw BIG money at people in Sales Positions who are responsible for bringing money in. The corporate clueless don’t get their stations have to have something to sell before a sales person sells anything; talent that attracts listeners, not a vacuous signal that has nothing to offer but its presence.
That’s logic way above the pay grade of these same idiots who drove Cumulus corporate into bankruptcy.
They continue to confirm they have no clue what radio is and needs to be in order to survive.
And of course, one wonders what this says about any of the other perceived”untouchables” toiling at Cumulus stations.
So much for all the dog-lipped rhetoric being spewed out over the landscape these last couple of years.
Further, what have been the lessons learned through this ugly process?
We can speculate: Few, if any.
I understand financial moves I really do. However this one does not make a lot of sense unless the show is not making any money which I would perhaps question. My bigger question is this. Is this a move to silence a conservative broadcaster ?
“Is this a move to silence a conservative broadcaster?”
If that were true, Cumulus would shut down all of WABC.
No, don’t be silly.
Imus is 77 years old, well past his prime and probably very expensive vs. his overall ratings and demos.
Getting rid of Imus..What a fucking joke Cumulus is!!!
Cumulus must have thought he was a joke when they canned john Williams
